Unfortunately, there is no “teaching data” for humans to become AI Engineer after few hours but don’t worry we have you covered and give you a basic understanding on how to take steps to become a top class AI Engineer. Artificial Intelligence has been buzz word for quite a few years but it is not really a common knowledge. Some think it might take over the world So, what does it really mean?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a computer science research for the creation of applications or computers that exhibit human intelligence and are growing at a rapid rate. It can be picking your news feed, Google Search Results or Facebook algorithms, AI is doing its job wonderfully. In short, the creation of AI is the science of machines that can find solutions to crises like human beings can do. From search engines to self-driving vehicles, AI has been at the forefront of contemporary innovations. According to reports, AI will reach your daily lives by 2025 (if not already), and AI jobs will be among the fastest-growing jobs in the technology industry, providing additional employment opportunities for those with the right AI skills. AI Engineers’ wage careers are among the highest around the world. So, the question is, how can you become an AI engineer?

Before learning about how to become an AI engineer let’s see what kind of work they do. An AI engineer works with algorithms, neural networks, and other methods for the development of AI to solve the specific architecture problems that come from integrating the logic of conventional systems with the learned logic of machine learning models. AI engineers collect data from a range of sources, develop and validate their own machine learning models, and deploy these models using embedded code or API calls to construct AI-infused applications.

The process of becoming AI engineer can be divided into three parts:

Qualifications

Accomplishing the correct credentials is an important aspect of the path to become an AI engineer. The first decision is whether or not to study for a college degree and, if so, which course to take. The easiest way to determine whether to prepare for an bachelor’s computer science or an AI-related subject is to ask yourself whether or not you want to be interested in research and development. If the answer is yes, a degree in mathematics, computer science or AI is suggested, followed by a master’s degree or PhD in machine learning.

If you don’t find research side of things your cup of tea and prefer to be more hands-on with the implementation of AI, you don’t really need a degree. College degrees have their drawbacks, particularly in new fields such as AI, as the topics you’re going to learn are out of date by the time the course is taught. Online classes are also the best choice, since they are up to date, often teaching cutting-edge methods, and employers, both large and small, are increasingly respected.

Knowledge and Skills

You are required to have strong understanding of programming languages like Python, R, Java, C++, and so on. It’s important to have a good knowledge of classes and data structures. Often, only the experience of these developments cannot be enough. You may come across projects where you need to utilize hardware skills to develop. Also, you have to be comfortable with basic algorithms, memory management, and linking.

You also need in-depth understanding of algorithm theory to be a good AI engineer. The knowledge of subjects like Gradient Descent, Lagrange, Quadratic Programming, Partial Differential Equation, and so on is greatly beneficial for developing AI. If you’ve been away from it for a while, all this math may at first seem frightening. Be prepared, AI and machine learning are far more math-intensive than any sort of front-end development.

Experience

As AI is a new technology, companies are not generally interested in credentials of standard degrees. A combination of online training, reading about the topic and hands-on learning is what they are looking for. The more you can show expertise, the more likely you are able to find AI engineering job with good conditions. There are few ways to gain experience attending courses, workshops, and paid or unpaid work is a good metric for employers to evaluate your capability.

Indeed findings suggest an AI engineer’s total income is about $110,000 per annum, with a minimum of $105,244 and a high of $144,611. Companies recruiting top AI talent vary from startups such as Argo AI to technology majors such as IBM. These are the main employers that have employed top AI talent over the past year, according to Glassdoor. Artificial Intelligence jobs will be among the top IT jobs in the near future, as per Gartner. It is nothing but a fact that AI engineers will have a high demand. It is never too late too start your journey towards AI engineer.
